Engine oil gradually loses its additive package and its ability to carry heat and debris long before it necessarily looks dirty. That is why the manufacturer sets maintenance by mileage and time rather than appearance. Signs that an oil change may be due include an illuminated oil-change reminder, mileage beyond the last service, oil on the dipstick that looks dark or low, or a ticking or louder engine note at startup. The manufacturer specifies oil and filter replacement every 5,000 miles for this model year. Drivers can schedule service when maintenance is due.
