6 common questions answered

Is the oil filter replaced every time a 2022 Lexus LS 500 has its oil changed? The 2022 Lexus LS 500 oil filter is scheduled for replacement with the oil at the manufacturer's published 10,000-mile interval.

Replacing the filter with the oil keeps captured debris from remaining in a loaded filter. The service interval comes from the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, while other service needs can depend on inspection and service history.

  • 3.5-liter V6 engine
  • Filter replaced with scheduled oil service
  • Leak check after the engine runs
What is included in an oil filter replacement on a 2022 Lexus LS 500?Oil filter replacement includes an engine-matched filter, a new drain plug gasket or washer where applicable, and a post-service leak check.

The filter is matched to the 2022 Lexus LS 500 engine. After the filter and oil are serviced, the engine is run so the technician can inspect the filter seal for leaks before completion.

  • Filter matched to the engine
  • New drain plug gasket or washer where used
  • Filter-seal leak inspection
What happens if the oil filter on a 2022 Lexus LS 500 is not replaced?A loaded filter can open its bypass valve, allowing oil to circulate without being filtered.

The engine still receives oil, but it may no longer receive filtered oil. The filter holds debris carried by the oil, so stretching it across multiple oil changes reduces the benefit of clean lubrication. Inspection and service history help determine the vehicle's current maintenance needs.

  • Debris remains captured in the old filter
  • The bypass valve can open when the filter loads
  • Oil may circulate unfiltered
Does a 2022 Lexus LS 500 need a specific oil filter?Yes, the filter must be matched to the 3.5-liter, six-cylinder V6 engine, because filters are not interchangeable across engines.

The correct filter is selected for the engine actually fitted to the 2022 Lexus LS 500. This service does not rely on a universal filter choice; the engine's configuration determines the appropriate match.

  • 3.5-liter displacement
  • Six-cylinder V6 layout
  • Engine-matched filter selection
Can the oil be changed on a 2022 Lexus LS 500 without changing the filter? The oil can be drained and replaced separately, but the manufacturer's schedule calls for replacing the oil filter every 10,000 miles.

Replacing only the oil leaves the existing filter holding the debris it has collected. A loaded filter can open its bypass valve, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate. The vehicle's service history and inspection help determine what maintenance is due.

  • Filter captures oil-borne debris
  • Bypass valve opens when the filter loads
  • Schedule filter replacement with the oil
